There’s a long‑running issue catching out sole traders and small business owners: unsolicited ‘business name renewal’ notices , 'donmain renewal notices" and ‘company review’ letters that look official… but aren’t.

Some of these operators allegedly impersonate ASIC or use wording and layouts that many consider misleading and deceptive.
And it’s been happening for decades — costing small business owners unnecessary fees they never needed to pay.
I’ve been advocating for years to protect small business owners from these practices, and it’s great to see the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia (COSBOA) actively advocating for this change and pushing for ASIC to issue formal warnings.
Please share this with your clients, colleagues, and business friends.
No one should be paying extra to third‑party operators for something they can do directly with ASIC at the correct fee.
Small business owners deserve clarity, not confusion — and they certainly shouldn’t be preyed upon by opportunistic tactics.
Let’s spread the word loudly and widely.
